You’re invited to join us as we celebrate the publication of Three Nights at the Condor, written by Benita Mattioli, wife of Condor co-owner, Pete Mattioli during the most exciting time in the club’s history.
The topless swimsuit revolution blew into San Francisco’s North Beach area like a wildfire in 1964 and changed the City’s entertainment landscape forever. Carol Doda danced on top of a white piano in the Condor Nightclub wearing the first topless swimsuit on June 19, 1964, causing pandemonium of magnificent proportions. The nightclub’s owners at the time were Pete Mattioli and Gino Del Prete. Pete wife, Benita Mattioli, has written a memoir of her husband’s life, which includes the story of the Condor, taking you on a wild ride through North Beach history during the 1950’s, 1960’s and 1970’s. The book, titled Three Nights at the Condor, focuses on Pete’s relationships with the legendary Carol Doda, his notorious partner, Gino Del Prete, promoter Big Davey Rosenberg, and the entertainers and celebrities who frequented the club.
Pete will be joining us as we relive this captivating true tale of how the Condor, a tiny neighborhood bar with a jukebox, in San Francisco’s North Beach Area was transformed into the first—then the most famous—topless nightclub in history, becoming a key player in the sexual revolution of the 1960s. Don’t miss this exciting event!
